This talk explores key roles within game audio across creative and especially technical disciplines. It considers how educators and parents can nurture emerging talent, supporting learners from school through further and higher education into professional practice. Drawing on industry insights, the session highlights accessible, free tools and clear learning pathways that demystify game audio.

On the day, Steven Coltart is joined by former student and audio designer Georgia Bell, who shares their journeys into the industry and offers specialist career advice.

Steven Coltart is a British composer, audio lead, technical music designer, and educator whose work spans video games, film, television, and immersive media. Based between Norfolk and London, he is recognised for emotionally driven, cinematic soundtracks that combine orchestral and electronic elements with strong technical expertise and narrative focus. During his time as Head of Audio at Maze Theory, Steven led creative direction and technical delivery across platforms, including PSVR2, Meta Quest, and Steam VR, contributing to titles such as Infinite Inside (2024) and Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow (2025). In November 2025, he began freelancing with the Sony PlayStation Studios Creative Arts Music team.

Alongside his industry practice, Steven brings over 15 years of experience in further and higher education. He has previously served as Senior Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, where he developed and led the Composition for Film and Games degree, acted as Head of Games at Norwich University of the Arts, and currently teaches Unreal Engine and audio middleware–focused content within the Games department at West Suffolk College (Eastern Education Group).
