How Can Families Rehearse Social Skills That Feel Natural?

Explore practical tips and tools with Nicci Rossini, co-creator of the board game Race to your Rocket, that enable parents and carers to support children in social situations which they find challenging.

Certain social situations are challenging for many children (and in fact some adults!)

Sharing ideas that can be practised in calm, familiar environments can help build confidence for the social situations that your child might find challenging.

The main social situations we will look at are joining in, resolving conflict and not just starting, but sustaining conversations with friends.

We’ll also look at what to do when things don’t go to plan.

Age recommendation:

This talk is particularly suitable for neurodivergent young people and their parents / carers.

The session is also relevant to anyone looking to learn more about neurodivergence, including educators and those working in a SEN environment.

Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying parent / carer.

Nicci Rossini

Nicci Rossini, Founder of Little Spark Learning, is a learning games designer and former primary teacher and importantly, a parent to three children, one with additional needs. Nicci knows how vital it is for children to feel understood, especially when they face adversity, in its many forms.

"I care deeply about helping children form strong, healthy relationships—because friendships matter. That’s why I create games that help kids build social skills in fun, gentle ways. These skills shape how they connect with others now and in the future"
